4.3 Right-Click Context Menu

4.3.1 Available Context Menu Options

This section explains the functionality available in the right-click context menu when managing files in the Dots environment. Company admins can use this to guide user actions and manage access controls effectively.
When a user right-clicks on a file (e.g., a .docx document), the following options appear:

4.3.2 Open the File and Folder

This action opens the selected file or folder. For files, it may launch a built-in viewer or editor depending on the file type. For folders, it displays the folder’s contents in the current view. Users can also trigger this action by double-clicking.

4.3.4 Copy the File and Folder

This action creates a duplicate reference of the selected file or folder. After copying, users can paste it into a different location within the system. The original file or folder remains unchanged.

4.3.5 Rename the File and Folder

The Rename function lets users change the name of a file or folder to keep their files organized. It updates the name instantly without affecting the file’s content or location and prevents duplicate names in the same folder.

4.3.6 Delete the File and Folder

The Delete function allows users to remove files or folders, which are then moved to the Recycle Bin. Items in the Recycle Bin can be restored or permanently deleted later.

4.3.7 Orient Drop the File and Folder

The Orient Drop function enables users to share files or folders with other users easily. It allows quick collaboration by granting access to selected items without duplicating them.

4.3.8 Admin Permission
  • Admins can manage user access to these options through role-based permissions. For example:
  • Restrict Delete or Rename actions for general users.
  • Allow Open and Copy actions in shared folders only.
