4.3 Right-Click Context Menu

4.3.1 CreatingAvailable NewContext FilesMenu Options

This section explains the functionality available in the right-click context menu when managing files in the Dots environment. Company admins can use this to guide user actions and Foldersmanage access controls effectively.
1. CreateWhen a Newuser Folderright-clicks To createon a newfile folder,(e.g., clicka .docx document), the "following options appear:

This Aaction folderopens willthe beselected createdfile or folder. For files, it may launch a built-in viewer or editor depending on the file type. For folders, it displays the folder’s contents in the current directoryview. with the default name "New Folder". The cursor will automatically focus on the folder name, allowing for immediate renaming. Click outside the folder name area to save the new name.
2. Create a New File Click the dropdown menu next to the "New Folder" button and select the desired file format to create a new file in that format.


4.3.2 Renaming Files and Folders
1. Rename via Right-Click or Toolbar Select a file or folder, then right-click and choose "Rename" from the context menu, or use the rename option in the toolbar. YouUsers can also usetrigger thethis F2action shortcut key to rename (some browsers may require you to release the shortcut key).
2. Rename in List Mode In List Mode,by double-click on the file or folder name to initiate renaming.clicking.


4.3.3Action: Moving and Copying Files
1. Mouse Operations Select the file to move or copy. Use the "Cut" or "Copy" buttons on the taskbar, or right-click the file and choose the corresponding option. Navigate to the target directory, right-click, and select "Paste" to complete the move or copy operation. Alternatively, use the "Copy to" or "Move to" functions from the right-click menu and select the target directory.

Use Case: Relocating files without duplication.

4.3.4 Copy

Action: Copies the file, hold down the Ctrl key while dragging. To move the file, hold down the Shift key.
3. Shortcut Key Operations After selecting theselected file or folder, use Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste it inelsewhere.
Use Case: Duplicating files for sharing or backup purposes.

4.3.5 Rename

Action: Allows the target directory. Use Ctrl+Xuser to cutedit the file andname.
Use Ctrl+VCase: toCorrecting pastenaming it.conventions or clarifying content purpose.

Tip: Set naming policies for standardization across teams.

4.3.6 Delete

4.3.4 Deleting Files and Folders
1. Delete Selected Files/Folders Select theselected file or folder to delete and choose "Delete". Several methods are available:
Shortcut Key: Press Delete on the keyboard.
Taskbar Icon: Click the "Delete" icon in the taskbar.
Right-Click Menu: Right-click on the file or folder and select "Delete" from the contextdirectory.

Warning: Deletion Processmay be irreversible unless a recycle bin feature is active.

4.3.7 Orient DropFiles

Use Case: Completes file transfer actions.

Note: Appears only when a file is ready to thebe Recyclepasted.

4.3.8 Admin Permission
  • Admins can manage user access to these options through role-based permissions. For example:
  • Restrict Delete or Rename actions for general users.
  • Allow Open and Copy actions in shared byfolders othersonly.

have their sharing terminated and will be moved to the Recycle Bin. To permanently delete files, you must remove them from the Recycle Bin.
