4.3 Right-Click Context Menu

4.3.1 Available Context Menu Options

This section explains the functionality available in the right-click context menu when managing files in the Dots environment. Company admins can use this to guide user actions and manage access controls effectively.
When a user right-clicks on a file (e.g., a .docx document), the following options appear:

4.3.2 Open File/Folder

This action opens the selected file or folder. For files, it may launch a built-in viewer or editor depending on the file type. For folders, it displays the folder’s contents in the current view. Users can also trigger this action by double-clicking.

Action: Marks the selected file to move it to another directory.
Use Case: Relocating files without duplication.

4.3.4 Copy

Action: Copies the selected file to paste it elsewhere.
Use Case: Duplicating files for sharing or backup purposes.

4.3.5 Rename

Action: Allows the user to edit the file name.
Use Case: Correcting naming conventions or clarifying content purpose.

Tip: Set naming policies for standardization across teams.

4.3.6 Delete

Action: Permanently removes the selected file from the directory.
Use Case: Cleaning up obsolete or duplicate files.

Warning: Deletion may be irreversible unless a recycle bin feature is active.

4.3.7 Orient Drop

Action: Moves or pastes previously cut/copied content into the current folder.
Use Case: Completes file transfer actions.

Note: Appears only when a file is ready to be pasted.
